Over the Air Updates coming with Apple iOS 5

OTA updates

With WWDC just days away, it looks like Apple has leaked some big news. News we have all expected for quite some time, but it sure is nice to see something semi official.

Or if your device has Automatic Download enabled for apps, your updates will download to your device without having to sync.

That of course is the line that makes reference to the OTA updates which Apple has since pulled from the My Apps update screen. Over the air is something Playbook owners have been experiencing since the launch, as well as Android owners.

For anyone with a jailbroken iPhone, this may not be all that exciting as WiFiSync has been making this possible since their app was rejected from the Appstore, and is now available via Cydia for $9.99.

Now, the description does not specify that OTA updates will be available for iOS updates, but if rumors are correct, not only will you be able to update apps wirelessly, this will also be a feature of iOS 5.0.

Stay tuned for some big news this week during WWDC, which may include news about iCloud, Lion OSX, and updates to Time Capsule and Airport Extreme.

Now back to the game. Go Canucks Go!
