Samsung Galaxy S 2

Last evening Samsung held a media event to celebrate the launch of the Samsung Galaxy S 2 Android smartphone.

During the event we confirmed the official launch date for Canada will be July 21 through Bell & Virgin Mobile. No pricing information was provided but the expected 3 year price is $169.95 and a no contract price of $599.95.

We did confirm a new firmware update was just released which answered quite a few questions we had about our review unit. I have been experiencing very slow network speeds, poor battery performance, higher then normal heat, and minor issues here and there. I confirmed the unit(s) on hand were updated with a  new firmware and corrected the issues being experienced with the older firmware.

So when you pick up your device, be sure to check KIES for the latest firmware updates.

Heres a few snaps from the event.

UPDATE: Although we got to witness the Galaxy S 2 from a rooftop in Toronto, Samsung Japan has decided to take the phone into outer space! You can watch the event live via ustream and began this morning at 7AM EST.
