Earlier today LG announced the availability of Android 4.4 KitKat on the LG G2 smartphone. This is great news for G2 owners and shows that LG is committed to their promise of delivering KitKat.
With the KitKat OS 4.4.2 upgrade, the G2 will play music more efficiently and support the battery-saving location mode, extending – the already outstanding battery life and user enjoyment. The latest Android OS also provides a noticeable speed boost, allowing the G2 to run applications up to 17 per cent faster than before. It also delivers quicker web browsing, based on internal testing, thanks to the Chromium engine. What’s more, a handy new feature called Google Cloud Printer makes it easy to print documents via Wi-Fi or a Bluetooth connection.
Also mentioned in this press release is a new exciting feature called “KnockCode”, but we were a little disappointed to learn this update will not be available until April (hopefully they meant early April). While we do have to wait, we can still talk about how great KnockCode will be to G2 owners. The Knockon feature, while seemingly gimmicky, is one of the coolest features about this phone and allows for quick access to the phone especially when the phone is placed flat on a surface and out of your hands. But true to spec, once the lock screen is presented, a passcode or pattern is required so having the ability to enter a knock pattern to both unlock the lock screen and the device will be very handy.
The update took no more then 15 minutes and was very seamless. While we need to review battery tests over the next few days we did notice an overall improvement in performance and a quick bench shows it about 25+ higher after the update.
The update itself was about 650MB +/- and can be downloaded through wifi or a cellular connection for Rogers, Telus, and Bell customers. Happy updating! For a full list of KitKat 4.4 features, visit android.com.
