News Corp introduces an iPad newspaper: The Daily iPad app

The Daily

Rumors have been circulating for months that Rupert Murdoch, of News Corp, was in talks with Apple to digitize an iPad only Daily newspaper. “New times demand new journalism,” said Murdoch.

“There’s a growing segment of the population here and around the world that is educated and sophisticated that does not read national print newspapers or watch television news,” said Mr. Murdoch

The iPad app is a subscription based application released daily with rich content, high definition video, and vibrant photos. The newspaper subscription price is $0.99 USD per week, or $39.99 USD for the entire year.

News Corp held a live event today and even had Eddy Cue, an Apple representative on hand to deliver the news.

We attempted to download the first issue, available today, however we were greeted with a very common error in the iTunes appstore for us Canadians. It would appear only US citizens can subscribe.

iTunes CanadaWe have reached out to The Daily to inquire if the new digital newspaper will be available to Canadians in the future but have not yet heard a response.

UPDATE: The Daily has confirmed the app is now available in the Canadian iTunes store.  Enjoy!
