Bloomberg is reporting the much anticipated Apple iPad 2 may be delayed due to “production bottleneck”. According to a report by Vincent Chen and Alison Chen, analysts at Yuanta, there are issues with the new production as Apple made design changes just before Lunar New Year.
This will come as a real blow for Apple, as the timing could not be more important. In March we are expecting to see the RIM Playbook, Motorola Xoom, HTC Flyer, and many more tablets. Although Apple already has a head start with the original iPad, giving the competitors even one month could do some major damage.
Wonder what those design changes could have been? Stay tuned!
UPDATE: According to several analysts, the delay could also impact the next iPhone (iPhone 5). If true, the iPhone 5 might not be hitting stores until September, instead of the typical June/July. And remember, Canada always suffers the time delay, so this could push it back another month even. The iPhone 4 launched in the US, on June 11, 2010, and did not arrive in Canada until July 30, 2010. We really need to do something with the delayed launches in Canada. Are we that terrible?
UPDATE 2: Reuters refutes the delay and reports that according to their own sources, the products will launch as planned. WSJ joins in the rumor mill, and reports that Apple will be holding a Media Event on March 2, and this will take place in San Francisco.
